So this is where he came to hide
When he ran from you
In a private detective overcoat
And dirty dead man's shoes

The pretty things of Knightsbridge
Lying for a minister of state
Is a far cry from the nod and wink
Here at traitor's gate

'Cause the high heel he used to be has been ground down
And he listens for the footsteps that would follow him around

To murder my love is a crime
But will you still love
A man out of time?

There's a twopenny ha'penny millionaire
Looking for a fourpenny one
With a tight grip on the short hairs
Of the public imagination

But for his private wife and kids somehow
Real life becomes a rumor
Days of Dutch courage
Just three French letters and a German sense of humor

He's got a mind like a sewer and a heart like a fridge
He stands to be insulted, and he pays for the privilege

To murder my love is a crime
But will you still love
A man out of time?

The biggest wheels of industry
Retire sharp and short
And the after-dinner overtures
Are nothing but an afterthought

Somebody's creeping in the kitchen
There's a reputation to be made
Whose nerves are always on a knife's edge
Who's up late polishing the blade

Love is always scarpering or cowering or fawning
You drink yourself insensitive and hate yourself in the morning

To murder my love is a crime
But will you still love
A man out of time?
Will you still love
A man out of time?
Will you still love
A man out of time?
Ooh

How many artists are around as long as this guy without getting stuck in a rut or being forced to totally sell out?  Elvis is a rarity. {#Clap}
Man, I love this song.

Man out of tune? {#Ask}

I rate it a 2. Somebody's got to stand up for a good sense of intonation. What a bunch of fanboys!! {#Naughty}

It gets a 2 because you think he's out of tune? Jeez, tough crowd.  What about the song itself? the instrumentation?

As for being a fanboy... I think this record is one of his 2 or 3 best. For me, his work was excellent up to and including King of America. Since then, it's been anything but.

I don't get it.  Why isn't EC just one rung higher on the fame ladder?

"with a tuppeny-halfpenny millionaire looking for a fourpenny one" - there's an ancient reference, right enough, one that would mean little to anyone not alive and conscious in 1971 when the UK currency went decimal away from pounds, shillings and pence (or LSD as it used to be known). I wonder when this song was written? Mind you, some words and phrases from the LSD era have survived into modern speech...

He played it and you missed it!
I had a cassette I had crudely made of Elvis songs that cut this selection off 2/3 through. Always felt jarred when that tape ran out in the middle of nowhere late at night.
