Smacked up again behind the door
Begging please give me some more
A vein that's open for the day
Feel the pulse beneath the skin
And smiling as it all begins
Oh where have you been?

Judy's staring at the sun
Judy's staring at the sun
Judy's fantasy has come

So amplify this little one
She's a volume freak
She hears as much as she can see
And what she sees she can't believe
It's just what Judy needs a moment of release
To give her peace peace peace

Judy's starting at the sun
Judy's day passed out of sight
Judy will be suffering tonight
She's suffering

She passed by and said good-bye to him
And in a rare and lucid state
She said my days are unoriginal
I wanna fade fade fade
She's suffering

Judy's staring at the sun
Judy's day passed out of sight
Judy will be suffering tonight

From The Velvet Underground waiting for the man straight into Catherine Wheel 'Smacked up again behind the door
Begging please give me some more'  I wonder where our musical journey will go next. As always, thanks for the musical flow.

Yes, the lyrics tell me a sad story, too.  I wonder why people are drawn to heroin or opioids.

Is the high really that good?  I'm afraid to try them, because if the high really IS that good, I'm a goner.

Is the high similar to pot, 'shrooms, or LSD?  I enjoy those, but am able to control my desire for those drugs.

Are people so broken inside that they'll try anything to block the pain, the sorrow, the heartbreak, the shame they feel about themselves?

That's the premise of many sad stories ... like this one, too, I suppose.

Seriously has every song for the past four hours been about heroin? Play anything else. Please.

I think the first use of  "Catherine Wheel" was the medieval torture disease on which the condemned was broken.  I'll try to keep your meaning in mind while listening to this band.  Thanks.
Reminds me such a great time in my life

I love this tune. But exploring their catalog, not as impressive, but certainly they were lost to history, thank you to RP for making me aware.

Same here. Oh, what divine backing vocals. Dammit, I know that voice, but can't come up with a name. Bill, with perfect timing, comes on and tells me it's Tanya Donelly. Uh, I knew that, yeah, I did. I've only got discs of Muses, Breeders, Belly. Duh. Hmmmm, guess my memory is getting as old as some of these songs. Thanks, Bill, I so enjoyed that!
Singer/guitarist Rob Dickinson is restoring and modifying super high-end Porsches with his company Singer now.
Is Judy in disguise?
While this song is definitely one of their most pop-friendly ones, this band was one of the great underrated rock bands of the 90’s, IMHO.
I hope Judy has sunglasses on

Well, "shoe-gazers" has been applied to them and the term did come from musicians who often look down at their effects pedals while playing.  I thought you were making some sort of floral reference.

Good for you.
Do you have to explain your taste of music to the younger generation?
I get the "What are you listening to?" a lot.
I find my taste of music is way more varied than most of the whipper snappers around me.
Though I've influenced my son and daughter quite a bit.
My son "discovers" something like The Shins recently... "Dad have you ever heard of the band The Shins?"
Sure. Do you want to borrow all their CD's? {#Lol}

Thinking back, I always sought out the more "eclectic" stuff.

How's the rest of the CD?

What I love about 'rock' is that as I get older (born 1956) the rock music and the radio stations—at least this one—get better!

+1 on everything you said, especially about Adam and Eve - great, overlooked album.

Upping this from 8 to 9.

I seem to have a tendency to up things each time I hear them just because it's a song from one of my favourite bands. Oh well...

My crank days are far behind (fortunately), but I LOVE that song. The layers, reverb, etc. are so absorbing. When I'm driving home at 11pm from a 15-hour workday, it just puts me in a great zone, making me wish the song lasted an hour. How about more CW, Bill?

Karl: You may never see this but, for the record, I used my earlier note about not knowing the lyrics for "Little Muscle" as a prompt to finally check after 13 years of not getting around to it. Turns out that I must have been spectacularly UNobservant to not have always know that the song was about the tongue and not that other fleshy structural feature males are noted for frequently misusing.

Yep, they're a 90's band. I stumbled on them first around 96 listening to a college radio station - probably about the time (or not terribly long after) this album, Happy Days, came out. I really only knew one song, "Little Muscle" (which I at first thought was referring to a penis but later came to believe really was applied to the tongue - never have studied a lyric sheet to be sure, either way), which I thought rocked magnificently. Bought the CD but didn't like anything else as much. Fast forward to 2004, I'm in Jittery Joe's coffee shop in Athens, GA and one of the employees was playing "Chrome", a later CD, over the coffeehouse system. Loved it, bought it, and then "Ferment" shortly after, both of which are still a soundtrack for that year (a difficult one) for me. Both of those actually pre-date Happy Days. I think of them in the same general category as the band, Ride, although I imagine most would say they are less of a 'shoegazing' band than Ride.
well , THATS what i call bad singing.

Thanks for playing an old favorite. A then relatively unknown Catherine Wheel was included on my playlist when I was a DJ at an underground radio station in Los Angeles, CA back in the early 1990's.

I really like Catherine Wheel, but this song isn't one of my faves.
one of my favorite 90's bands ever since I saw them open for the Cowboy Junkies in Albany NY. They absolutely blew me away and I've been a fan for over 12 years. Rob and Tanya sound great on this one.
CW is great, but I think Radio Paradise oughta add Rob Dickinson's latest CD to their rotation. For those unaware, Rob is lead singer of CW. His new album is quite catchy, not to mention interesting cover art.

does anyone remember Vitamin Z? i know, i know - it was the 80s. love catherine wheel stuff, but i always think the singer is the Vitamin Z
Catherine Wheel, found again wow... Their music is like swimming in sound, dancing with textures, and being carressed by melody... My friend Judy thinks it was written about her, but I just love this song for the way it moves through the air around me. David says its a wall of sound kind of experience. You definitely need to listen to this one with the volume up and you will understand i think... Radio Paradise, yes you are my precious... saba
Does Tonya Donnelly sing backup on this one? EDIT: Nevermind - scrolled down. Guess she does.
Thank you, thank you, for playing this song!!!! Please play more Catherine Wheel on RP!
