I was just a boy when I sat down
To watch the news on TV
I saw some ordinary slaughter
I saw some routine atrocity
My father said, don't look away
You got to be strong, you got to be bold, now
He said, that in the end it is beauty
That is going to save the world, now

And she moves among the sparrows
And she floats upon the breeze
She moves among the flowers
She moves something deep inside of me

I was walking around the flower show like a leper
Coming down with some kind of nervous hysteria
When I saw you standing there, green eyes, black hair
Up against the pink and purple wisteria
You said, hey, nature boy, are you looking at me
With some unrighteous intention?
My knees went weak,
I couldn't speak, I was having thoughts
That were not in my best interests to mention

And she moves among the flowers
And she floats upon the smoke
She moves among the shadows
She moves me with just one little look

You took me back to your place
And dressed me up in a deep sea diver's suit
You played the patriot, you raised the flag
And I stood at full salute
Later on we smoked a pipe that struck me dumb
And made it impossible to speak
As you closed in, in slow motion,
Quoting Sappho, in the original Greek

She moves among the shadows
She floats upon the breeze
She moves among the candles
And we moved through the days
and through the years

Years passed by, we were walking by the sea
Half delirious
You smiled at me and said, Babe
I think this thing is getting kind of serious
You pointed at something and said
Have you ever seen such a beautiful thing?
It was then that I broke down
It was then that you lifted me up again

She moves among the sparrows
And she walks across the sea
She moves among the flowers
And she moves something deep inside of me

She moves among the sparrows
And she floats upon the breeze
She moves among the flowers
And she moves right up close to me

I just did the same thing: 8 to 9. I wish I'd discovered NC earlier.

...Look, there's The Man in the Dusty Black Coat with the Red Right Hand!
-- Nick did the Peaky foakkin' BLOYNdahs OST, yeah!

YOU ROCK, NICK!

(And I love Nick's Bowie-/Edgar Winter-like "Freak Storm" character in the exquisitely trippy film Johnny Suede, with Brad Pitt when he was only a kid -- and his hair was perfect! No; really! Check it out!

i think he's starting to get onto my deserted island mix now. just love it.
One of my good friends went to a Nick Cave book signing in Manchester UK and she said he was so nice. He would not sit behind a desk, he stood with everyone and signed their books, posing for photos with whoever asked.
No ego whatsoever.

I like this track. But i do find myself going 'Come up & see me...' half way through.
Not a problem. Just saying.

I admire his work. Don't listen to him enough.

okay. You've got my attention...
From 8 👆🏻9 for the lyrics!!
Excellent follow to the Youngbloods.  BillG, you rock.  YOU ROCK!
Just saw Nick Cave in Asheville, NC to start off his US tour.  His thunderous Hand of God is still stuck in my head.  Saw Dylan last Saturday and he played all his Rough and Rowdy Ways album.  Dylan, at 80, and Cave (w/Warren) still putting out new music.  Neil is right: rock and roll will  never die.  Well, likely at 70 I will die off before its demise.
In the Nick of time...
What a lovely break from doing my taxes!

8 > 9. Because I just can't hear those fabulous lyrics and not think they are ingenious.

Wait a sec, only Ian Anderson is allowed to sing about deep sea diver sounds.
The start of this just gave me goosebumps, so it must be a corker!!

I hear ya. Nick Cave generally isn't my cup o' tea, but this one "moves something deep inside of me."
"Hmmm... what rhymes with hysteria?"
I really needed this music therapy today.

Oh hell yeah!
Take a pinch of the right venue.  Add in this song performed with gusto.

That would be one helluva concert.   This song demands participation.

I generally prefer Nick's older work but this is one of my favorites. That piano is just infectiously happy. {#Daisy}

I really like this too....other than the trouble this album gave me when ripping (my own CD) - first w/ the '/' then w/ the LONG track names....UGGG....at least the track is excellent to listen to, and it garners an 8.4 rating from me....almost ready to bump to 9....almost....

Long Live RP!!

60 years old and his latest, Skeleton Tree, proves he's getting better with age. Such a fascinating, talented artist.
Always fun.  The lyrics are the bomb.
Re: that piano thing in Nick's and Elton's songs, check out Procol Harum's "Still There'll Be More" on the 1970 'Home' album.

Epic imagery and energy. Reminiscent of so many other tunes and the feelings they represent, yet all of it's own.

Indeed.  The title of this is poignant in light of the recent tragic death of Nick Cave's young song.  So sad.
Rest in peace, Arthur.
If I were granted a wish to be able to perform a song as a rock star (and also to have the talent to do it of course) this one would be high on the list.
