I feel your heat in dusty whispers
The wind is cold around your moon
It's getting hard to keep our distance
I know your time is coming soon
Don't point your dream on my horizon
Don't take your rose too far from home
Please don't forget we're not each other
Each soul has black thorns of his own

I see you dancing
Your song is clear
You've got to show me, got to show me
There's nothing to fear
Nothing to fear
I have my loved ones you have yours
So let us gaze upon the feast
In God's own name let's eat together
In God's own name please come in peace
See how our children play together
While you and me we stand alone
I know we'll never be each other
If I leave you leave me alone

I see you dancing
Your song is clear
You've got to show me, got to show me
There's nothing to fear
Nothing to fear

Indeed. As he croons, all I can picture is a 45 year old washed-up pilates instructor with one too many wine coolers down the hatch and a well progressed case of male pattern baldness. Edit: Yet still not horrendous. Cliche, but tolerable.

This is simply a laid back, gravelly vocal by a seasoned European singer-guitarist with a very respected track record.  Not many can touch his slide playing, either.

He has a huge body of work, going all the way back to "Fool If You Think It's Over" in 1978.

. . . and this is the Very Best of Chris Rea?

Ouch.

Crikey mate, that's harsh.

"Nothing to fear"?!.....I fear he'll release another song like this.
Cool guitar.

...this is cool...
. . . and this is the Very Best of Chris Rea?

Ouch.

How could they issue this album without "Texas," one of his best songs?
on which album was this issued first?

on "God's Great Banana Skin" (1992)

I like this. More than some of his other work. Nice intro too.
Sacred excrements, for a moment I was thinking of Jeff Beck....

Can't believe I am hearing this?
Always liked Chris Rea.

I always thought his music best while driving down down fast flowing country back roads, late at night, cloudless, full moon, car free....

Never heard this but I like it a lot — 8 for me.

Yah, but in a GOOD way! I like this tune, sleepy or not.

Wow. Over 3 years since the last comment.

Yeah it's a bit formulaic but it does get the job done nicely. 7

Hard to believe this is the same guy who did Fool (If You Think It's Over).

oh, you should have just tried Coldplay from the beginning which, indeed, is really dull ... Chris Rea, on the other hand, gets you out of a nightmarish or insomnic lack of taste in music and provides pleasant dreams...

First time listening to this song, and I would have to agree. The intro is freestyle, while his singing is very structured - going exactly with the background music.
Remarkable intro, ho-hum song.
I like.
this song must be listened with a great good hifi...then the guitar will be part of your blood...
I l-i-i-i-i-ke Chris Rea. 8.

HEY! What's wrong with Male Pattern Baldness? Jeez, always gotta go for the head! (pimp)
Very nice cool Saturday morning tune. Have definitely become a Chris Rea fan from hearing him on RP.

He does come close to Jeff's tone, but different enough to not be a copycat. Very nice tone, cool song.
very Beck-ish, very cool!

Hmm starting out nicely,.... I feel a hot dusty wind against my face. The heat is kind of shimmering on the dry grass covered hills. I'm a little parched. I'm waiting for something. I can feel it getting closer. Closer. Nope, I can't quite make it out. Crap, he started to sing. The whole image has evaporated. He should have stuck with the instrumental.

This guy had one good song in him (Stainsby Girls) and had been churning out this overcooked formulaic sludge ever since.
Guess you never listened to "Road to Hell" all the way through.
Funny... had a bunch of Chris in the Nomad Jukebox MP3 mix these past few weeks. Wife asked last night, "Who is this? When did you first get turned on to him?" When I told her it was back in the late 80's, she didn't believe me!

Sublime. Found it on an old (1992) single, thought of Iraq (X2) and uploaded it. First instant acceptance to the RP playlist I ever had. Thanks guys. Peace on Earth. Will Bush (Jnr) become an elder statesman for peace as Nixon did? Discuss.

Very Very Nice.
Beautiful, haunting, provocative.

So did I!! I like this song a lot. Do I know Chris Rea's voice from another band?
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Lay back and enjoy. I recognized Chris immediately.
When does it start?
Gladyalikethesong I gave it a 10 to offset the 2 (who did that?) Still deserves at least a 9.
Woof! I thought this was Leonard Cohen...

I can't pinpoint exactly why, but the mood of this song reminds me of Robert Plant's "Big Log." Great song.
Very nice guitar work - not much of a fan of his voice yet but it's growing on me. The tune and guitar are definitely making up for it!
I would really like to hear 'On the Beach' right at this time of year. It takes me back to Hawaii ....
