I would say I'm sorry
If I thought that it would change your mind
But I know that this time
I have said too much, been too unkind

I try to laugh about it
Cover it all up with lies
I try to laugh about it
Hiding the tears in my eyes

'Cause boys don't cry
Boys don't cry

I would break down at your feet
And beg forgiveness, plead with you
But I know that it's too late
And now there's nothing I can do

So I try to laugh about it
Cover it all up with lies
I try to laugh about it
Hiding the tears in my eyes

'Cause boys don't cry
Boys don't cry

I would tell you that I loved you
If I thought that you would stay
But I know that it's no use
That you've already gone away

Misjudged your limits
Pushed you too far
Took you for granted
I thought that you needed me more, more, more

Now I would do most anything
To get you back by my side
But I just keep on laughing
Hiding the tears in my eyes

'Cause boys don't cry
Boys don't cry
Boys don't cry

The old man on the cover is totally cool! I wish that I could remember the story about it.  Anybody know the exact story?

Never cared much for the radio-friendly version of The Cure (Boys Don't Cry, Love Cats, Friday I'm In Love).  Their lesser known works are much better examples of their music craftsmanship.

Sneaky BillG, playing this after a very cry-worthy To Build a Home from The Cinematic Orchestra :)
Diversity.  Why I love RP.
Such a peppy song, it outshines the sadness in the lyrics.
makes me dance and turn up the volume
I cry.
My daughter fell in love with next door boy, and angry with me because boys don't cry.

Sorry to be pedantic, but it came out in 1979. Still rinky dinky, though.

Perhaps it's been explained here before, but..

The man featured on the album cover was not a member of the Cure; he was chosen because his appearance fit the desired aesthetic of the album. His name is John Button, and was at the time a retired fisherman. He also appeared in the music video for "Killing an Arab." According to the band's 2005 biography by Jeff Apter, when asked why he agreed to lend his face to the band's media, Button's answer was "If I can help these youngsters break through, after all, why not?" He also reportedly said that he would buy a player and listen to one of the band's songs "out of curiosity, just to see."

I agree with you about the variety. There is a whole lot here at RP that I don't like either, but I like about half, and flat out love about a quarter of it. I can't do better anywhere else. I don't agree with you about negative comments. Most are just tongue-in-cheek harmless banter. It is nice to hear why a particular poster does not like a song/group, but it's not required. Just lighten up and don't take a dissenting voice or opinion for more than what it is - an expression of another person's own preference. Believe me, no negative poster can harm the inviolable reputation of The Talking Heads' or The Cure, and if it distracts from your enjoyment, then don't read the posts.

Only Robert Smith's voice can do full justice to this song.  It has just the right rebellious yet vulnerable whine.

Saw The Cure in Tampa last summer ('08) and absolutely loved the show.  They are consummate professionals...don't believe I heard a single wrong note in the entire 3 hour show.  Some great bootlegs from their tour are floating around the Net.   {#Clap}

You and Uncle Fenester are so spot on. I have to admit though, RP is the only place I will allow myself to go buckwild with emoticons. I wouldn't be caught dead using them anywhere else... Here's one for the gipper:
this being just an average song, and as such is way overplayed. Bill's in love?!

I was in my late 20's when first I started hearing the cure. I thought it was interesting that an "English fag band" {as most of my country oriented friends called them} would use the bass guitar as their lead guitar in most of what I was hearing. Its like they hadn't really learned to play the instrument yet, but they were making music with it anyway. I liked it and still do. I have most everything they recorded including some {probably pirate} VCD's of their concerts. {they were what I could find for sale on the internet at the time} The tune ‘Gone' from ‘Wild Mood Swings' is very eclectic and down right strange but I really like it. Really dig the words used for lyrics in that one. I also really like the instrumental ‘Tape'.
I like Rush (pre-1984) but can't stand Porcupine Tree. Love the Cure though.
Not my thing. Who's the guy on the cover?

I can't stand Rush either. Fortunately I don't think I've been listening if/when Bill has played any. Phew! But who knows? Maybe hearing it between Beethoven and Neko Case would give me a new appreciation.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of RP listeners don't ever listen to AM or even much mainstream FM. So for them it's not overplayed. I know I haven't heard this much, if ever.
good in the 80's, but 20 years late.....

True, but it's nice to mix well known and new ..... adds contrast, and if the set was made up of entirely new and experimental tracks the customer base would be limited. They have a business to run and money to make like the rest of us.

Every time I hear this song I think about Jenny Robinson and riding the school bus home with her in nineth grade. Man, that girl was cool. New wave in Eatonville, Washington. Who would have thought it possible?

Do I think The Cure is brilliant? Certainly not. But just like CSN, Airplane, or Dead, their music takes me to a different place and time and allows me to sample music's rich patina that I don't always get to enjoy today. I dunno. I guess I'm just a noodling old hippie.
