Thought that I'd be happy
Going to be so happy
Living life alone and never sharing anything
Thought that I was finished
Thought that I was complete
Thought that I was whole instead of being half of something
Thought that I was growing
Growing older, wiser
Understanding why this world held nothing for my spirit
Thought that I was destined
Destined to be nothing
Destined to be nothing in this world and then I met you
I met you
I met you
I met you
I met you
Thought that God had failed me
Thought my prayers were useless
Thought that he would never get the chance for me to praise him
Thought the book was written
Thought the game had ended
Thought the song was sung and I could never sing another
Thought my faith was misplaced
Thought my back was broken
Broken by a weight that I was never fit to carry
I thought I knew this city
Thought I knew all about it
And then one night I went to Morningside and you were waiting
I met you
I met you
I met you
I met you
Thought that I'd be happy
Going to be so happy
Living life alone and never sharing anything
Thought that I was finished

I love Mavis Staples version...
I like it... the back up signer is a dead ringer for the Midnight Oil lead singer! maybe it is?
It's funny how really crappy songs like this one seem to go on and on.
I still listen to this album. Can't believe it's been so long since it came out. I particularly like "Sunshine on Leath" and "Cap in Hand", but this is a good one too.
Sunshine on Leith is a great, underrated album.

Most people seem to regard The Proclaimers as a novelty act, but they definitely are not! Try to see them live and you'll be converted. This is possibly my favourite song of theirs - the wonderfully straightforward sentiments of the lyric are matched by the power of the band's performance.

Really enjoying this. It's refreshing to hear that they had more than 1 great song in them!
I really like these guys.
I thought it strange that I never heard any other of their tunes than that one(500 miles?) hit they had.
that was good and poppy, but to me it sounded like it had "more".

These guys are just so passionate and zealous - it would be very difficult to NOT be affected by their music. I'm sitting here tapping my foot and thinking seriously about dancing.
Glad to hear this instead of "500 miles". Many good tunes on this CD. Great guitar fills...throughout and fun sax! Too bad the album cover has them pissing on Leith.
