I'm gonna take my time
I have all the time in the world
To make you mine
It is written in the stars above
The gods decree
You'll be right here by my side
Right next to me
You can run but you cannot hide

Don't say you want me
Don't say you need me
Don't say you love me
It's understood
Don't say you're happy
Out there without me
I know you can't be
'Cause it's no good

I'll be fine
I'll be waiting patiently
Until you see the signs
And come running to my open arms
When will you realise
Do we have to wait till our worlds collide
Open up your eyes
You can't turn back the tide

Don't say you want me
Don't say you need me
Don't say you love me
It's understood
Don't say you're happy
Out there without me
I know you can't be
'Cause it's no good

I'm gonna take my time
I have all the time in the world
To make you mine
It is written in the stars above

Don't say you want me
Don't say you need me
Don't say you love me
It's understood
Don't say you're happy
Out there without me
I know you can't be
'Cause it's no good
Don't say you want me
Don't say you need me
Don't say you love me
It's understood
Don't say you're happy
Out there without me
I know you can't be

Depeche Mode were the unknowing heroes of the East German resistance, it's worth checking out.

I was never a huge DM fan 'in the day', and have never had the pleasure of seeing them live, but I have come to really appreciate their music the last couple of years - lyrically they blow me away!
Blasphemous rumours are the best type BTW - if you're going to start 'em, make it worth it

Lovely, right after Ray Charles!   Nice!
i love this song so much. never realized how stalker-ish these lyrics feel. maybe not meant to be, but...

Yes, they had recently lost a big portion of their sonic creativity with the departure of Alan Wilder, and the other band members certainly has their struggles at the time, but end to end, it has a drive and creativity that they haven’t matched since (Playing The Angel is closest).

It may sound sacrilegious, but I prefer Ultra to Violator. Highly recommended if you don’t have it.

Pretty much the contrary here, never been much of a DM fan. Have been developing a sweet spot for the early Vince Clarke records long after his leaving.
But then came Ultra and It's No Good in particular. Holy moly, what a great and timeless piece of music!
This song gets a solid 9 from me (in a personal universe where 10 is almost exclusively reserved for Beatles and Eels).

Depeche Mode is like architecture - art that's designed to serve a function. DM is great to do housework to - seriously- try it.

Me too. Martin was so ahead of it, lyrically and musically. And they also had Bomb The Bass as a producer. Groove was his middle name. :) Even the follow up, OWILM and Surrender were stellar songs, one of DM's best.

Sadly, I think Martin has lost the lyrical and musical focus and their latest album Spirit was mediocre at best, also grumpy and grim (and not in a good way). They should have ended their career on a high level with Delta Machine, IMO. But oh well, we'll see if they have any juice left in a possible future album.

After years and years, this tune became my DM favorite. I find all the sooner stuff so weak, with quite flat sound...
This one really rocks and has balls, at last!
Man, I remember such FUN because I had this band's songs on my Walkman-gear my 1st time in Oz, back in '90. THEY rock DARKLY
DM seems to get better as time goes on, both old and new stuff.
This is a great album to listen to on headphones and bicycle trails with.

Seamless transition from Stereo MCs!

I love this song. That bass line is awesome.

Yes! Just watched this again. I'm sure the guys enjoyed poking fun at themselves. Gahan has the lounge lizard act down perfectly; the disgusted looks that the "girls" throw him are hysterical.

DM isn't for everyone. They always struck me as the logical extension and conclusion of the New Romantic movement in '80s pop, with dance and goth cultures thrown in for that dark edgy touch. A band can keep that up only for so long and their fanbase grows out of that kind of music.

I only remember bits and pieces of Besson's "Nikita." I remember laughing my ass off when Nikita starts to receive martial arts training and slaps the hell out of her instructor thanks to her superior hand speed. The American version with Bridget Fonda was pretty lame, wasn't it?

Besson's "Leon: the Professional" with Jean Reno was amazing. Loved Gary Oldman in that--brilliant actor.

Just an FYI for you Nakitaheads out there, the entire series is now available for purchase on iTunes, although it is a bit pricey.

And I just watched the original Luc Besson film for free on Hulu last week, definitely worth a re-take!

As far as I know, it's totally defunct. Your only option is to purchase all the seasons on DVD (and there are scant extras, but who cares? The show itself is worth to cost.) Warner Brothers totally dropped the ball on this show. And I'm not surprised.

Thanks for that, though it's taken me aback a bit - this is the kind of adulation/obsession/devotion that defines a series as "cult", right enough. Reminds me of those (including myself) who followed The Prisoner, many of whom went seriously over the top in their devotion, and indeed there are still annual Prisoner get-togethers at Portmeirion, so I've heard.

I never saw the TV series La Femme Nikita, but vaguely remember the original (Luc Besson?) film in French which was disturbing and genre-busting. I must make a point of getting it out of my local library to watch it again.

I edited my original post because apparently, my cat sat on the keyboard and deleted a bunch of stuff, so my comments didn't make a lot of sense. (Maybe they still don't.)  As for the conventions, they were discontinued in around 2000.  The original Luc Besson film was a lot darker and more violent than the series.  He has an exceptional talent as a director, though. {#Mrgreen}

At one point, people were sending broken television sets to Peter Roth's office owned the copyright to the show and didn't even know it> with notes saying, "Won't be needing this anymore, since LFN has been cancelled."  It drove him a little bit nuts.)

I recommend at least renting the first season of the series (NOT the new one which is WB's blatant attempt to cash in on what they let slip through their fingers the first time) but the one with Peta Wilson, Roy Dupuis, Don Francks, Matthew Ferguson, and the incredibly gorgeous Alberta Watson. It's worth a look.  And a listen - tons of great music, not the least of which is Sean Callery's score. (He's a nice guy, too.)

The first time I ever heard this song was at a "La Femme Nikita" convention in Toronto in about 1998. It was playing at full volume, and all I could think was, "Holy crap - I think my heart just vibrated out of my body through my mouth."  I didn't know it was Depeche Mode, but someone at the con told me, and I bought the CD right away.  That bass-line just rocks me.  A lot of the music of "La Femme Nikita" was Canadian artists and cutting-edge techno. Man, I miss that show...
