You don't like the sound of the truth
Coming from my mouth
You say that I like the proof
Baby that might be so
I might get to the end of my life
Find out everyone was lying
Look like you are not afraid anymore
I say that I would rather die trying
Oh swing me way down south
Sing me something brave from your mouth
And I'll bring you pearls of water on my hips
And the love in my lips
All the love in my lips
This time when I swung the bat
And I found myself laying flat
I wondered
What a way to spend a dime
What a way to use the time
Aint it baby?
Now I looked at our reflections
In the window walking past
And I saw strangers
I think we're just so scared all the time
That's the main reason why
The world is so dangerous
Oh swing me way down south
Sing me something brave from your mouth
And I'll bring you pearls of water on my hips
And the love in my lips
All the love in my lips
You don't like the sound of the truth
Coming from my mouth
You say that I like the proof
Baby that might be so
Tell what's wrong with having a little faith
In what you're feelin in your heart
Why must we be so afraid
And always so far apart
Coming from my mouth
You say that I like the proof
Baby that might be so
I might get to the end of my life
Find out everyone was lying
Look like you are not afraid anymore
I say that I would rather die trying

The lyrics at left are inaccurate. These may be better.

Dixie Chicks also do this one very well, but their version is so rushed — in a 21st-century sort of way.

*sigh* I really can't stand that "we're almost singing in time, but not quite!" sound.

Some of the best music comes from folks who would be making music whether they got paid for it or not: they'd be sitting around somebody's living room or porch, if it wasn't a studio.

Again, as I've said a thousand times, just cuz someone has a country twang and there's a banjo does NOT make it country. As with so many artists on here she is more alternative folk, singer-songwriter, etc. I can't stand it when people lump all people into gawd awful "country" because of a twang.
Most people, even those who listen to country stations would not recognize real country music.
Oh also Patty with Emmylou = yummy!

Aaaahhhh. Took a short road trip last weekend and played only Patty to and from ("Children Running Through," "1,000 Kisses" and "Impossible Dream"). It made me wonder why I ever put these in the CD rack, vs. keeping them loaded up and ready to play. I agree with a previous poster, I can't stand most country music - but Patty's country-inflected work stands apart. If you ever have a chance to see her perform live, DO IT. I did a few years back - one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Left me breathless and overwhelmed at how incredible her voice and guitar & piano playing are.

This song makes me wish the ratings went to 11.
I used to dream about creating my own radio station. I'd play songs that are loosely cataloged as 'adult alternative,' but avoid the stuff that's been hyper exposed on regular radio. I'd mix in some eclectic stuff, and some gems from the 80s and before. I'd zig when others would zag.
And I'd play songs from Patty's awesome unreleased album, Silver Bell. In fact, the first song I'd play would come from that album. It sums up everything that is wrong with corporate music.
Then I found Radio Paradise, and my station has already been created. Thanks, Bill!!
