I hear the tiniest sparks and the tenderest sounds
Diving music
Drowning the sound
Waltzing with the hairs upon my arms
Then your fight or flight alarm
And you tremble
Then you stumble
And you scrape up your palms

I can't stay here to hold your hand
I've been away for so long
I've lost my taste for home
And that's a dirty, fallow feeling...
To be the dangling ceiling
From when the roof came crashing down

Peeling in the heat
Vanish in the rain
The next time you say "forever"
I will punch you in your face
Just because you don't believe it
Doesn't mean I didn't mean it
You never knew when I'll show you the never
You never know when I'll show you the never

Love her voice, and the music's nice.  But the lyrics are pure drivel.
Nice car. Is Neko a cougar?

Bill can never play enough Neko Case. She deserves all the play she gets here. Is your usual FM station in your area playing her way too much? Hm, maybe never did at all is more like it and you'd never know of her existence otherwise.
Hm, I see RadioDoc hails from Chicagoland, home to the Bloodshot label. RP plays enough from that label and I never hear a lick from it on Dallas airwaves which is why I've stuck to streaming RP for the past 14 years.
Still playing this to death 5 years later?  Bill...you can do better than that.

Is she thinking about her "awesomeness" as well?

Sorry - there is far too much Neko Case on RP for me. While these should be room for her - why is there so much?

Like her voice. Style of music too. Nice stuff we'll never hear on corporate radio.

Relax guys...she's my girlfriend. She lies all the time.

Love the little truism

Love her voice. Sehnsucht

She always leaves you wanting more... clever girl...

Exactly what I was going to post.  I love Neko, but that's my only gripe with her - many of her songs are less than 2:30 or so. And it's not just this album; it's just the way she composes.

Haven't been as crazy about this album as her others, but this piece is really growing on me.

Really like NC.  I've only heard Fox Confessor and Cyclone, but have been very impressed with her.  More, please.  : )
I would love to hear a "Best Of' from Neko Case.   But next best thing to that is RP!!!
I want to live next door to Neko Case....I'll be she is a good neighbor to have!

Looking at the album cover I wonder why Ford does not design a retro rod based on the old Cougar.  The Mustang is a fantastic car with the retro looks and is very popular.  I would be the first in line and I would check the box for the optional 'Neko hood ornament' as depicted here.

Well she's a woman so for sure her narcissism will surpass anything a man could imagine. Also, why is she on a Mercury Cougar instead of on a Mercury Cyclone?

It is actually her car or was, I think she raffled it off for charity a last year sometime.

Getting it back might be a problem. She's got a freakin' sword!

Love Neko Case, but not a big fan of this song.
best album cover ever
the next time you say forever I will punch you in your face.

Well a) welcome to the world of art, b) I've actually heard that Neko Case rarely writes about herself. Only a few songs are genuinely about her life/experiences. Wierdly enough you can write in first person from the perspective of someone else. It happens a lot in this niche little thing called literature.

How many singer/songwriters do you know of who do not write the majority of their lyrics in the first person?  A singer-songwriter being self absorbed?  Perish the thought.  Her music is a personal expression, not a dissertation.  Do you wish to limit all songwriting to be third-person "story-songs"?

{#Sunny}  Three geniuses in a row...Tori, Strummer, Neko...OK four, Mark Knopfler...can you get your mind around the chain reactions that folks like this initiate?  History changing.

what a bizarre comment. I have a feeling you might have way too much time on your hands.

Why bizarre? Some musicians are stuck like that. David Byrne is another example. If you hear him enough on this station one thing starts coming out — he sings almost entirely in the first person. It took 5 minutes to scan her lyrics and confirm what every song played on the station was already telling me.

No man, what's bizarre is that people eat it up.

It does seem like not her best effort.  I like most of the songs, but they're all on the short side.  Then the eternity of frogs croaking at the end is a bit annoying.  It was novel for the first five minutes, but then I just wanted it to end.  The first time I heard the frogs, we were in the car and had the sound down a bit.  I thought we had a squeaky bearing going out in the front end.
forever.  {#Headache} OW!

funny, it's the opposite for me. this is what got me interested in her older stuff.
All I ever hear is the "red bells" song, it doesn't matter what song she is singing. Love the artwork cover!

I generally like Neko, but haven't been able to get into this album.

Perhaps not such a minority. I personally find her voice annoying.

Wow.  You are in the minority.  Most people think she has one of the most crisp and crystalline voices put to audio.
Going to see her in Charlotte NC on 11/18!!!! Again!!!
I looooooooooooooooove her!!!!

Thank you RP for introducing me to Neko.  What a delight.

Second time in a few hours...too much Neko {#Evil}
Best album cover of 2009 so far. One of my least favorite songs from the album, though.
Dang, that was short.  I was just getting interested..."that was never five minutes just now!"

Only because every other musician sounds like The Decemberists so who is there left for her to sound like?

If she's smart, she'll get a lawyer and sue herself.

Lovely but too short {#Neutral}.....not her, the Song {#Beat}
