All the love you sought
Exposing you
I am torn
Dark spell, I crave you so
I wanna live, but you just won't let me go
We laid there in starlight
Woke-up in the storm
Am I yours?
I'm not sure
Dark spell, you cast me so
I wanna live, but you just won't leave me alone
And the wheel keeps turning
I can't get enough
And the flame keeps burning
And I surrender love
They say the eyes are like
Windows to the soul
I ain't so sure
I see through yours
My borders are broken raw
I just can't protect, can't protect them no more
And the wheel keeps turning
I can't get enough
And the flame keeps burning
And I surrender love
Turn your back on another world
Promise yourself "never again"
The wheel keeps turning
But I can't get enough
And the sun keeps burning
And I surrender love
Blondie ‘Rapture’ tip off. Hope she’s getting the richly deserved royalties.
I agree, except that technically, Blondie is not a she...
Meaning "full of awe"! Agreed. Although not all that simple
Well said. Why anybody comes to RP to hear a song like this, and decide that it is "simply awful" boggles me. It's like they're going out of their way to make sure everybody knows they have a problem with music that doesn't conform to some predetermined model.
And you hip-hop, and you don't stop Just blast off, sure shot
etc etc .. Mars, cars chomping bars..
are missing
So - I deduce this is a completely original song.
What in the name of all that is holy is "post-Britpop"?
It is a sugar-coated cereal, by the Post Cereal Co.
What in the name of all that is holy is "post-Britpop"?
Something that happened after Britpop. In the same as post-apocalyptic is something that happened after Donald Trump.
Loving the bass line.
Reminds me of the Clash
I like it. The way the bass line starts out, it reminds me of U2!

I was just wondering the same thing.
Love your work! 😘
I agree!
Are the comments about this being a ripoff of Blindie’s “Rapture” meant to be ironic?
I hope so,
I thought it was a cover of Rapture from the opening notes.
I know Morcheeba did with Charango (instrumentals far superior to vocal versions) and Mike Oldfield with Man on the Rocks (both good, IMO).
Any other suggestions out there?
Not quite the same thing, but I was listening to The Thorns this morning on the way into work. They were a collaboration between Matthew Sweet, Shawn Mullins, & Pete Droge, doing a guitars-&-harmony sort of thing. They had double album with straight up performances on one CD and another called The Sunset Sessions which was acoustic versions of the other disc.
It had been years since I'd last played the acoustic disc (the better of the two), but it was great singing along with the volume cranked.
VERY-VERY!
I'm a little unclear; are they underrated or not?

100% agreed! I've always been fascinated by how simple a "rock" instrument the bass guitar is and yet, in the hands of a great musician, that simple bass does so much for a song; keeping rhythm and vibe, completeness of the full frequency spectrum, and possibly less obvious, adding suspense and emphasis to certain sections of a song.
And after reading his Wiki page, I'm a bit impressed by Jimi Goodwin; he sings, plays guitar (and even the drums) in addition to bass, and as a lefty, he plays his bass strung for a righty and flipped upside down. Pretty friggin cool! I'm upping my 7 to an 8 now.
Crazy bassline does it for me!
Can we see the other part of the photo, please...?
I knew I was hearing something familiar . . . .

Works on a Friday as well
I think its wondawful! Doves make some really great music; though I can see where it may be an acquired taste (or maybe not even that).
And tonight and easily as excellent. The Doves entrance is really well blended.
And the seamless segue again today! love BG and RP!

The DOVES are disco?
Woow - you have incredible insight!
VERY-VERY!
The first five notes of this song's vocal melody sound very much like those of like "Rapture". The instrumental intro (or "lick") in this song doesn't really sound anything like that of like prior song, certainly not "note-for-note".

It's the drums. The 16th note hi-hat especially, and the way he plays with opening and closing the cymbals. At least, that's where I'm hearing it.
Yes, agreed....it's the drumming that creates a disco beat. You hear it very clearly at the beginning of the song...
Really?! I grew up in the disco sarah and I don't hear it at all. like the listener below who compared this to blondie I get a lot of new wave influence
Disco Sarah = potential band name (but twists your meaning significantly).

trying to figure out if that is before the soft rock Bob era.
"I'm a maaaaaan, yes I aaaaaaam and I can't help but love you so"
Edit: I see others have noticed the similarity as well. Such smart listeners

Somebody nailed it before- it's Blondie "Rapture"- the intro lick is note-for-note... Still, decent.
Whaaaaaat? I thought they were just going on an indefinite hiatus (see this post from Andy Williams).
Did I miss something?

LAAAAAAMMMMMEEEEEE!!!!!
Good point, I'd have guessed Hard-Fi myself
Listen to it.
nailed it?
I hear some of Better Than Ezra's "One More Murder" ...
Listen to it.
Nobody else hear the soundtrack to John Carpenters "The Live" ?
Yes! Also one of my favorites of 2009.
First time hearing this song... kinda surprised it's Doves.
I like it though... gonna check out the rest of this album.
This album is fantastic, and one of my favorites of the year. Solid all the way through. They were great live, when I saw them this summer, too.

Just logged on to make the same comment - doh!
Oddly enough, I sprained my "sacroiliac" last month ( it still hurts) and I knew that some old song had that word in the lyrics but I couldn't remember it. Hearing this track by the Doves made me think of that Blondie tune and, voila, these lyrics;
"Back to back
Sacroiliac
Spineless movement
And a wild attack"
Serendipitous.
Listen to it.
good call. too bad the vocals can't compare as well.
wow
hooked..haven't even heard the rest..but i LIKE!
I couldn't agree with you more, Tim! I too hadn't been exposed to them prior to RP. good stuff!
Loving the bass line.
If this song were more widely known it would be one of the best bass lines in rock history!
