Yeah, there are a lot of different old Genesis flavors in here.

That's what I love about RP, they sat on this song for six years then when it was time, they went to the basement to play it.

Hey LizardKing,  if DavisS_UK does not see your comment I will try and help you out in his absence.  I mentioned on another RH song that it is difficult to just listen to one RH song in isolation like you might pickup a newspaper and read one article.

I suggest you listen to some of their "Greatest Hits" type compilations on YouTube and settle down and listen to several tracks one after the other to get your ears tuned to their sound.

After that you will have been "aurally conditioned" and will be able to instantly recognise their sound and get into it more easily in the future.

However I recommend you listen to something upbeat after several RH tracks as they can tend to deflate your mood!

Good luck from the Emerald Isle!

Much thanks!  {#High-five}

Good idea to start with uTube vids and see where it takes me.  And thanks for the "don't let too much RH get you down" warning....I'll be careful.

Cheers from the Emerald City (Seattle) and Long Live RP!!  PEACE OUT

beautiful
The other track on this release, Daily Mail, seems much better to me and by comparison this sounds pretty average for Radiohead.  They've set themselves such a high bar over the years with consistently original and rich material though - how could they keep it up forever?
One of the two or three Radiohead Songs I like. A solid 8 !

Really?

Like RH but not enough to order the CDs.  Bland and lifeless is not what I would use to describe this song or the music.  On occasion a little directionless maybe?

As for ripping off Genesis....  I dunno ..... I can hear the influence or imagine the song writer being influenced by Genesis as were many other bands.   Does not inspire a specific Genesis song for this cowboy.

Yes - Definitely... there is a recurring riff lifted exactly from an early Genesis song.
It is so obvious that I came here specifically looking to see if I was the only one who noticed.
I am not a big listener of RH, I like some of what I hear and also find a lot of it unoriginal and milking tired themes.
I AM a very big fan of early Genesis however and this goes way beyond "inspiration".
They have expanded the range and length of the riff but t is a note for note copy of Mike Rutherford's original.

And what early Genesis song did they copy here?
Sounds soothing...

Every time RP plays Radiohead.....I run over to the computer to read the comments. I believe there is not another band played here that has such opposing listener  opinions like this band does. It's rather amusing.
Personally I am in the middle. I like them a lot....but not better than Pink Floyd! {#Drool}

To many artists, entertainers, or other creators, opinions can often be useful or important; most works are not made in a vacuum.  In other words: opinions can serve a purpose, but they will rarely serve a dolphin.  Anyhow, I'm not over the moon about Radiohead, but this tune has kind of a cool, ambient groove going on.  The extreme divisiveness expressed in the threads for their songs is remarkable though.

I agree.  This is decent, but I'd really like the boys to break out of this noodling phase they have been mired in and get back to making great melodies like before.  Kid A rocked, but that was plenty for me.

Which "early Genesis song" are you referring to?    Just curious.  There really aren't many riffs in this tune - just a couple of little scale noodlings and arpeggiated chords.

I am not liking their new sound though, with the repetitive drumming and baselines.  Thom Yorke's melodies are there, but doesn't Phil, the drummer, get bored?

I think they've figured out some kick-butt techno beats with real-life drummers. And the more you listen to TKOL, the more it grows on you. Well, did for me, anyway.

Just saw them on this tour, and they brought along the drummer from Portishead to help round-out all that percussion. And the first song they played had all of them beating on drums! All of Seattle's Key Arena were on their feet dancing for the whole show!

And I would say that if you listen to the catalogue in order, the sound just keeps evolving. Certainly one of the most original bands we have the pleasure of listening to today!

With or without Yorke's vocals Radiohead is a great band. I've had the same problems as Fred with Yorke—too often the falsetto crosses the line between effective and just plain whiny. Thankfully, his lyrics have matured. The thing is that you can't separate the singer—and 3rd guitarist—from the band. So, I have reluctantly accepted Yorke—I know gracious of me, eh?—but not without some latent resistance.
Not a big RH fan.... but this I'm liking.

Personally, I am more than relieved he has gone. He got on my tits more than I care to admit. . .

A good tune - however not in my view one of their finest. Then again not even these clever chaps from Abingdon can be expected to always hit the intensity/quality bullseye ALL the time. Or can they?
