She says, "What?"
Check out the music video for this song on YouTube. It's a whimsical look at a family from 1988 moving from East Germany to Texas.
Native born Texans hold the derisive view that our nation is comprised of "The United State of Texas......and 49 other places.....wherever they are".
Good song though. My Texan friends like it. I myself am from NJ and though I've lived in Dallas for 25 years I can never be a Texan. Just wouldn't be right. I cringe when I see those bumper stickers popular with transplants to Texas that read "I wasn't born here but got here as fast as I could". Yeesh!
Gives me pause to think that the entire land mass of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland can fit within the borders of Texas. France is about the same size as Texas too. You can drive all day into the night and still be in Texas whereas you could drive through five countries in Europe in the same amount of time which is neither here not there but I'm just sayin'. The provision to secede -and split into up to 5 independent countries- was part of the statehood agreement of 1845. It was nullified by the Civil War. What is taking so long is the need to teach the Texas Tea Party people the meanings of "secession" and "nullify", how to count to 5, and, most of all, that the South lost the war, the south lost the war, the south.....
Texas keeps threatening to secede. What's taking them so long?

The lyrics seem to be written from the point of view of someone who has not visited Texas and only imagines it. I don't think he was pretending to have experienced those weather events.
a song written by a guy who obviously has never lived through ice storms, drought, 95 degree nights, and tornadoes. great song though

I have followed Chris since 1978. What a career. His "Blue Guitars" 11-CD box set covers all styles of the blues and is a must-have for all aficionados of the blues.
I came to Austin in 1999 from Boston. Culture shock was imminent and it smacked me hard. A friend introduce this song to me and all I can say is - Yep, I've gone to Texas. Still here and I love this song.
The song conjures up an image...
It's black with a slightly smoky spot light shining on a guy in a suit and hat. In glides a lithe brunette in a slinky black dress doing a slow walk/dance around the guy. The movements are slightly jazzy with hints of ballet but for the most part she has a hand that lingers across the guy with the touch either being a finger that traces from his cheek to his jaw or across his shoulders. But it's the eyes that get ya.

Whew! I need to get back to work.

A song about going to Texas on an album named The Road To Hell....
I think I'll ask my wife what that means, she's from there.

This song always puts me in a great mood; totally takes me away from here straight to Texas!!!
yall come see us, we got the best of ever'thin
To the land of big belt buckles and bigger hats I offer up the lyrics:
Warm winds blowing
Heating blue sky
And a road that goes forever
Been thinking 'bout it lately
Been watching some tv
Been looking all around me
At what has come to be
Been talking to my neighbour
And he agrees with me
It's all gone crazy
Well my wife returns from taking
My little girl to school
She's got beads of perspiration
As she tries to keep her cool
She says that mess it don't get no better
There's gonna come a day
Someone's gonna get killed out there
And i turn to her and say texas
She says what?
I said texas
She says what?
They've got big long road out there
Warm winds blowing
Heating blue sky
And a road that goes forever
I'm going to texas
We got to get out of here
We got to get out of here
Well i got a little brother
Several meters high
Yea his built just like a quarterback
And he swears he'll testify
He says he's been to texas
And that's the only place to be
Big stakes, big girls, no trouble there
That's the place for me
I'm going to texas
I'm going to texas
Watch me walking
Watch me walking
Warm winds blowing
Heating blue sky
And a road that goes forever
Been thinking 'bout it lately
Been watching some tv
Been looking all around me
At what has come to be
Been talking to my neighbour

Needed that. Aren't many things better than a slide guitarist takin' his time. Thank you Chris.
I spent three decades of my life in NY, and 2 in Texas, and (with all due respect) all I can say is: Texas!
ah! Rea! Love this guy. The UK's answer to Springsteen, but he can play guitar.
The Other Paradise
He's from Middlesbrough on Teeside actually. Important for him if not the rest of us.
yea! something completely new to me. and i like it.
Nice groove. More, please!

Not sure where this gent is from, but I don't think it's Texas. Still, song isn't bad.

Loved this the first time I heard it. Still remember sitting in the back of a van, coming back from a late May camping trip (in Eastern Canada - we got swarmed by blackflies and had to leave in a hurry) and this tune came on the radio. The van was full of blackflies, but I was in Texas. Sweet groove.
Forget the lyrics.....outstanding guitar of the slide variety!!
Thanks Bill! I missed it of course; in the shower! oh, well. thanks for playing it-great shuffle, hot summer day song.

Love this album. This song, plus Road to Hell I & II are excellent tunes.
What?
Yes It's All True
This is pretty nice. Slow, steady groove, and a favorite of my boys when they were little. (in excited little-boy voices) "TEXAS!"
