lay your head where they hold
hide the demarcations of your soul
and play your silent scream role
harmonize your own worth to what you're shown
normalized and nowhere close to home

claim the truth that gets lost
in the miles of memory and open folds
so change these rules and let's cross
all the sacred boundaries we've overgrown
build a brave new foundry close to home

here's unbroken bone
it's a psalm from the book of lies
language you don't recognize as part of your own
leave that alone
leave that alone

this is the taste you were forever chasing
there is no way to contain it when it comes when it comes to set you off
accept the shame on some shaky basis
admit that you were mistaken about it about it after all
but oh the ache the fantasy forsaken
the alien and adjacent you would give anything to take off
this is the claim that you'll keep on making
this is the point of the breaking here it comes here it comes to set you off

we won't be sold
any song from your book of lies
language we don't recognize as part of our own
leave us alone
leave us alone

pay them all to sign on
diagnose some fault line most will know
and raise your life a new dawn
tyrant of your cells now overthrown
never have you felt so close to home

This entire album is a 10
Today I move this from a 9 to 10 and declare it gives me goose bumps.

And whatever that time signature is .. or whatever ... I so love.
LOVE VIENNA!
The lyrics seem like a wandering word salad.  It's full of metaphors, idioms, and phrases that don't seem to connect to anything in the rest of the lyrics.

Nevertheless, decent song and I remember hearing it on RP regularly in late summer 2014.
Damn!! Logged in to rate this higher today... Already a 10

Another RP introduction for me - and bloody awesome it is too!!!

HaHa... Just reading down the comments (when I should be working...) and I upped it 8-10 a while back and commented...
She remains my favorite musician that has worked on large data sets.
Yep....9.50

Headphones on today, ramped up the volume

8>10 !!!!
classy, tasty, declicous sonic food for the ears and soul. very pleasing like sonic caresses
Wonderful song.
Clearly in the minority here.... not her worst... but not enjoyable either....
This is kind of great
THANK YOU RP!! For introducing me to yet another fantastic song. Every time I hear this one the volume goes up to 11.
This gets raised to a 9 today.  I love it.
This feels like something I should like, but I don't. Maybe it needs to be played louder.
Usually I find VT pretty uninteresting, but this one I really like.
Go see her live if you get a chance. Smart, thoughtful music.
Never heard this before, most excellent!
great song,  one of my faves.

Lovely for a Sunday Afternoon {#Bananajam}
She is IT !!!!
This is a classic RP song - a little spacy, snappy hooks - good pick.
I love this track.
Seriously good.
I admit that I was  mistaken about it about it after all

You're right.  Someone could have done a disco cover of that, but I'm not aware of it.  {#Cheesygrin}

Friday peace time. 30degC outside, Nearly beer oh clock.
I'm kind of astounded this song on YouTube only has 17,603 views.  That's low for any song that appears on Radio Paradise.  I wonder if her label is not doing enough to promote her stuff.  She's certainly talented.

Garb.

If Vienna were the only artist RP introduced me to, I'd die happy :)
Thankfully, she's not the only one, but I love pretty much everything she does, and she is phenomenal live.

Sir, you may leave with your blow-up doll right now.

Bill & Rebecca had her in the studio live (I believe) way back and were undoubtedly as impressed as I was seeing and hearing her live and personal. She's magnificent and this song shows why, IMO. (And, besides her talent, she's a fine human being, which never hurts to promote. :-)

Lord does RP love this woman. She's been in regular rotation here for years. I just can't get into her. She sounds like what a classically trained musician would put out if they went pop. It has no grit, no dirt, nothing visceral to it. It's just too pleasant, pretty and pristine for me. Everything needs to have at least a drop of punk influence (I mean the sensibility not the actual sound) and anything I've ever heard of Ms. Teng is just seems to be missing that proverbial Ummph! I just don't feel it.

OK, it sounds always very very clean... but it's quite pleasant.
I'd like to know her darker side (without any sexual hidden meaning here... well, maybe a little one)... a cat-fight between Vienna and Tori! :)

"Everything needs to have at least a drop of punk influence"? What a strange criteria. I think you're ruling out a lot of fine music that predated punk or its progenitors (Velvet underground, MC5, Iggy) like Motown, Stones, Dylan, the Beatles.

To each their own. Ms. Teng is a hit or miss for me. More hits than misses though.
Talented performer, doesn't miss a step.  Good stuff.
Nice.
Vienna kicks Ass!
Never a wrong note.

Boo!  I like it!   To each their own>>>>>
Up here in Canader eh!...this is called a Big Sky Sound - absolutely love it!!  Bring it on!
She has a delightful voice.
This set of videos of Vienna Teng are pretty cool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFu2nRoHYms

It's just her and her piano/keyboard equip and a mic. You can see her talent all by itself.
Saw her a couple of months a go in a pub in Singapore, crammed into a second floor room in the Blu Jazz Cafe with about 50 people and just her and piano.
Was great until half way through the set when the full on free jazz band swung on the 1st floor into action and almost drowned her out.

Credit though she made light of it and pressed on, felt a bit sorry for her as it was hard to concentrate on the music but was a good gig nevertheless.

I'll forgive you guys for playing this again since you followed it up with Fleet Foxes. This time...

for me...her best effort to date!...
Reminds me of Dido somewhat.
I'd just like to say that this woman is fantastic.  I love here voice and her spirit and more and more all her songs are growing on me.

That's very nice, uh, I think.

The arrangement almost sounded like some older Bruce Hornsby.

Me like.
Love this one! When Vienna was attending Michigan U, she came down here for a concert and was fabulous—not just a cool and talented musician performer, but warm presence and audience rapport, helped in this case by being a small, intimate gig. Thinking of her then makes everything she does seem that much better.
She sounds a bit similar to Joni Mitchel...
According to VT (in concert) this is about Body Integrity Identity Disorder.

I'm not a big fan of VT (quite enjoyable, but I won't buy a CD), but this one caught my attention. It's the added production, I think: bass line, "strings", and incidental percussion. Instant 7 with room for more.

For me this is not well known Vienna from previous albums. No comparission to "Feather Moon" or "Unwritten letter #1". Disco music.

Very nice, warmmmm. Zero 7 ish (2013 theme developing?) same producer as London Grammar maybe?
Wow, she actually hit shades of Suzanne Vega in there in places, and seems to be banging along in rhythms that sound very new for her!
23 votes into this song, two people have given it a Sucko-Barfo.

What is it about this song (given the entire continuum of songs played here on RP) that could possibly be THAT objectionable? Come-on you One-Voter people...fess up!

Within 30 seconds I knew this was Vienna. Nice groove!
I was wondering when we would hear the new Vienna Teng album enter the playlist.

Funny that ACL is going on here in Austin today, and I'm more excited about her coming back to town in November.  If you haven't had a chance to see her live, you're really missing out. Can't wait to see how she builds the loops and samples up to perform any of the new album content.
