I'm still a freak, I never went straight
I kept my appointment with fate
And like every human being that was ever born
I'm unique
Things disappear, but I'm still here
I'm still a freak

I'm still a head and I'm doing fine
I can hear your voice in my mind
You ain't singing my praises now honey
do it when I'm dead
I'm not bitter but I'm no quitter
I'm still a head

I'm still awake, I knew all along
If you ain't crazy there's something wrong
and there's no such thing as a coincidence
or a mistake
And all this confusion is all just illusion
I'm still awake

I'm still a freak, I ain't been gagged
I'm still flying the flag
The game's movin' so fast, who knows where it's gonna
be this time next week!
Empires rise and fall, but through it all
I'm still a freak!

Funny thing just happened - about 20 minutes ago the Waterboys flashed through my mind, and I checked the interweb.  Freiburg, Germany (2 hours from home), 25 July, 2023.  Bought tickets for me and my sweetie... 20 minutes later, "Still a Freak" rocks out on RP!  Sometimes the universe is just synched up!

Freiburg rocks! Hope you had a great time...

Some days there needs to be an "11".
This is what the Black Keys want to sound like when they grow up.

Album cover looks a lot like's Shearwater's Rook album cover.

Religions can be so very weird!

(And well done on the reply to deepwoodskev.)

Such a jam
Me like.  Yet another band I really never paid attention to, until hearing them on RP.  I need to start a list of good music I have been introduced to here.  It would be a long one.
Wow, walked into the middle of that solo!  Didn't expect to see it was The Waterboys...
The great Mike Scott and co...  Still freaks.  Violin solo by Steve Wickham!!

I hear a very faint trace of an accent, but I wouldn't claim to know what kind, other than it isn't American like Tom's, which I think might have been the point of the comment you replied to?

Nothing wrong with the word "Blech" in german language, that is sheet metal. Could be gold, silver, copper, stainless or rusty steel. Though this is by far not the best song on the album, it is still plated.
Blues Hammer!!!

I do love that wild character on the album cover; gives "— jamming good, with Weird and Ghillie!" a whole new meaning & life for me!
Love The Waterboys but I'm not sure I would have even guessed this was them.  Instant 9.  It reminded me somewhat of that mid-80's Canadian band The Pursuit of Happiness.

The skronky guitar solo dropped it down a notch. Mike Scott needs someone around to tell him no, I think. Or maybe someone told him he should add a blistering solo. dunno. I bought the CD being a WB fan back to Pagan Place. It's a little uneven a bit reminiscent of Pagan Place but more bluesy and RnR. I find this one interesting due to the lyric content and found it amusing he would do this. Never thought of him as a "Freak". I could do without the "I See Elvis" song. Girl Who Slept for Scotland is good but I don't understand the lyrics, and a few others are good.

Well said both of U re: boogie blues and yet still giving the Wboys a chance.  Mike Scott has such a great muse and I am glad they are at least still in the game.  Further investigation needed.
Watched them on the BBC Glastonbury 2015 coverage. Good old-fashioned, no-nonsense, foot-tapping, head-nodding, rock & roll.

That skronky guitar is a fiddle.

If you're thinking of songs like "the Whole of the Moon" - yup, this is the same singer. I don't think his voice has changed all that much. I like this tune too.
